Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “değersiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bandajlanmasıyla oluşan güdük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lafıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok adetda polipeptit madun birimi barındırır). üs fark peptitlerin güdük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, öteki amino asite ötümlü, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bandajlanır. Polipeptid binasına peklan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid bandajlarıyla bandajlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir deniz çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine peklan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öteki ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
